At St. George Med Spa, we love treatments that help you look naturally more youthful, which is why we love Sculptra. By the time you hit 45, your face loses up to 25 percent of its naturally-produced collagen. Sculptra is an injectable dermal filler that subtly restores that lost volume. Sculptra then gets the body to produce more collagen in the treatment area over time (just like it used to), creating long-lasting and natural-looking results. If you want to make the next chapter in your beauty story a natural one, St. George Med Spa is here for you. Learn more about Sculptra below, then come see us for a consultation treatment planning so we can help you look and feel your best.
Sculptra is an injectable poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) dermal filler that is FDA-approved for treating nasolabial folds (between the nose and cheeks), other facial wrinkles, and much more. Sculptra is sterile, biocompatible, and biodegradable. Over time, your body will replace the polymer in Sculptra with your naturally-produced collagen. Results can be seen as early as 24 hours and last up to a year.
Sculptra is a non-surgical injectable treatment that effectively improves fine lines, wrinkles, and volume loss. Patients noticed a visible wrinkle reduction after the first injection in clinical tests. This increased throughout treatment and lasted for over 25 months in some cases, making Sculptra a safe and durable treatment for relief from facial aging. The secret to Sculptra’s longevity is its ability to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production as it breaks down over time. This creates a natural replacement for the volume loss Sculptra injections initially treat.
Healthy adults over the age of 18 are typically good candidates for Sculptra, with a few exceptions. Sculptra is not recommended for patients with a history of severe allergies to any of its ingredients or who have a history of hypertrophic scarring or keloids. You should let your treatment provider know if you are pregnant, nursing, or currently taking immunosuppressants. During your appointment, our medical aesthetic specialists will review your skin and ensure you are a healthy candidate for St. George Sculptra treatments.
Most dermal fillers can be instantly seen, but Sculptra works a little differently. Over the course of several sessions spaced six weeks apart, your St. George Med Spa provider will deliver Sculptra to the treatment area, resulting in a gradual and subtle improvement that is noticeable but not obvious. Following each injection, you may notice a little redness or swelling at the injection site, but those effects tend to resolve on their own.
You can resume most activities immediately after your Sculptra treatment, although you should wait at least 24 hours before strenuous exercise, indoor tanning beds, UV lamps, extended sun exposure, or extreme temperatures. While there is no major downtime after Sculptra St. George Med Spa strongly urges you to follow Sculptra’s recommendations to maximize the benefits of your treatment. The first recommendation is the “Five, Five, Five Rule.” Massage your treatment area for five minutes, five times a day, for the first five days following treatment. You can also apply ice to the treatment area within the first 24 hours after treatment to minimize any swelling that may happen.
While you may see an immediate reduction in wrinkles after treatment, it may be due to initial swelling. Don’t be surprised if you see your wrinkles mildly improve and then return after your first injection. That’s to be expected. However, as the weeks progress, you will notice a gradual increase in volume in the treatment area. Your wrinkles and folds will become less obvious, and your complexion will look more youthful. These improvements will continue through your treatment cycle and beyond as the Sculptra stimulates your natural collagen production.

In most cases, you can apply makeup a few hours after treatment with no issues. If you experience side effects following treatment, like bleeding, you will want to avoid putting make-up on any open wounds to minimize the risk of infection.
