Microneedling with PRP Targets and Treats Skin Imperfections While Rebuilding Collagen
Are you confronted with uneven skin tone and rough skin texture in your reflection? Acne scars, sun damage, injury, and even aging all contribute to an uneven complexion and a prematurely aged appearance. The good news is you don’t have to live with the ghosts of acne flares’ past or the lasting regret of that one summer you spent tanning instead of religiously reapplying your sunscreen. With the help of professional skin rejuvenation treatments like microneedling with PRP, our St. George aesthetic experts can smooth your skin tone and texture without lasers.
What is Microneedling with PRP?
Microneedling, also known as collagen-induction therapy, creates micro-injuries in the skin at varying depths in order to trigger your body’s natural healing processes. These micro-channels in the skin, when performed by an expert aesthetics provider, offers:
- Rapid skin cell turnover and exfoliation
- Deeper penetration of nourishing skin care products
- Renewed collagen and elastin production
After a series of treatments, skin appears smoother in both tone and texture, reducing the appearance of pores, scars, age spots, and more.
PRP, or platelet-rich plasma, adds another layer of benefit to microneedling treatment. We collect the PRP from a blood draw performed in our practice by placing the vial in a centrifuge. This separates the “liquid gold” from the rest of your blood, which is then applied to your skin like a serum. The PRP growth factors offer additional benefits, including:
- Collagen growth
- Faster healing and skin regeneration
- Tighter, toned skin
Benefits of Microneedling with PRP
A natural approach to skin rejuvenation, microneedling with PRP treats uneven skin tone and texture, including:
- Acne scars
- Brown spots
- Enlarged pores
- Fine lines
- Hyperpigmentation & melasma
- Stretch marks
A PRP facial using microneedling helps fade acne scars. First, the micro-needles break up the scar tissue. Both the needling and PRP activate natural healing properties in the body, triggering collagen production and skin cell turnover. After a series of treatments, visible scars are reduced in appearance. Microneedling can work on many different kinds of acne scars and scars caused by injury and inflammation.
Brown Spots, Hyperpigmentation, and Melasma
Dark skin patches caused by acne, injury, sun damage, or hormones, can all be treated successfully with a PRP facial. Microneedling with PRP stimulates skin regeneration, speeding up cellular turnover. Much like an exfoliating treatment or chemical peel, the top layer of skin peels away. The result is brighter, more even skin tone.
Fine Lines and Wrinkles
As collagen and elastin are stimulated with this treatment, skin firmness and structure is naturally restored, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. After a series of treatments, your skin will appear younger. Of course, we can include Botox and dermal fillers to finish your new, youthful look.
As your skin becomes firmer with more elasticity, your pores will appear smaller.
While microneedling with PRP is often performed on the face, neck, and chest, it can be used virtually anywhere. Moms who want to reduce the appearance of stretch marks on the belly, backside, and thighs often benefit from microneedling treatments.
What to Expect From Microneedling with PRP
During your consultation, we will determine if microneedling with PRP is right for you. As this is a natural procedure, most people are good candidates. We will discuss your skin concerns and goals and develop a treatment plan for your needs.
While some patients can tolerate this procedure without numbing, topical numbing prior to microneedling is available. If you can safely receive topical lidocaine, we will apply it and allow it to take effect before we begin your microneedling procedure.
We will draw your blood, just like a lab would, and then spin it through our centrifuge. This forces the PRP to separate in the vials.
Once we know you’re nice and numb, we will proceed with microneedling, applying the PRP and gliding the micro-pen across the skin. Depending on your needs and goals, we will adjust the depth of the needle penetration accordingly.
Aftercare and Downtime
Following your treatment, you can expect to experience some reddened, tender skin, much like you’d experience with a mild sunburn. Your skin may also flake and peel, which is normal. You will also notice some mild swelling, which is a natural response to the treatment and a sign that it’s working.
We will provide you with aftercare instructions, including our recommendation that you wear sunblock and avoid direct sun exposure. We may also send you home with skin care products that you should use to improve your results.
A series of treatments is recommended, spaced out over set intervals, for best results.
Expectations and Results
During your consultation, we will recommend a certain number of treatments to achieve your skin rejuvenation goals. With each treatment, you will notice gradual results. Following the treatment series, you will see reduced appearance of skin imperfections, with improved texture and skin brightness.
We do recommend routine touch-up treatments to maintain and improve your results and, depending on your needs and goals, we may also recommend other procedures, such as injectables and skin resurfacing facials.
